I happened to meet up with Srikumar Rao, the business sage I mentioned in Chapter 1. Rao often spoke of the idea that we should adopt a mental model that we live in a benevolent Universe. Trust that the world has your back. And everything happening to you is for your own good.
But I pushed back and asked him, “If this was true, why did I feel that the world was against me and why was I going through so much failure and pain at work?”
Rao replied, “The common misconception, Vishen, is that people think their work is about their work. This is wrong.”
